Software Update Issues on Peloton Machines (Email Update) 

Peloton notified its users about a problem with a recent software update affecting their hardware devices. Some users faced issues with the proper installation of the update, leading to their devices getting locked. The affected devices include the original Bike, Tread, Bike+, Tread+, and Row. 

Peloton sent out an email today to let members know about a problem with the recent software update. They also provided a solution that should likely fix the issue: 

We want to give you an update on the status of our latest software update for Bike, Bike+, Tread, Tread+, & Row. Some members have reported problems with the software update not installing correctly. When this occurs, your equipment might get stuck on an ‘installing updates’ or blank screen. 

Our team has been working swiftly to address this issue. If you encounter the problem during the update, performing a factory data reset should solve it in almost all cases.

ISSUE WITH SOFTWARE UPDATES ON PELOTON BIKE, TREAD, ROW

On August 17, 2023, the issue was initially identified, and an official incident report was posted on the Peloton status page. 

Users who encountered this problem managed to regain access to their device by performing a factory reset. Below are the steps for a Peloton Bike factory reset: 

  1. Turn off the touchscreen by holding down the power button and selecting “Shut Down” or by disconnecting and reconnecting the power cable. 
  1. Hold down the volume up button. 
  1. Press the power button on the touchscreen until the Peloton logo appears. If the Android Recovery screen appears, skip to step 7. 
  1. A menu will appear to the left of the Peloton logo with options like “Recovery Mode,” “Fastboot Mode,” and “Normal Boot.” 
  1. Use the volume up and down buttons to navigate and select. Choose “Recovery” by using the volume up button and selecting it with the volume down button. 
  1. On the screen that says “No command,” hold the power button, tap the volume up button, then release the power button to access the advanced system recovery menu. 
  1. Use the volume buttons to navigate to “Wipe All User Data / Factory Reset” and select it with the power button. 
  1. Confirm by choosing “Yes –Delete All User Data.” After the data is wiped, select “Reboot System Now.” 
  1. Log in to your Bike using your username and password when prompted.

It’s important to know that doing a factory reset won’t delete your profile, class history, or settings. After the reset, you just have to log in again.
